Two weeks ago I posted a bunch or Beat records by the German cheapo labels “tip” and “Tempo”. This week it`s all about the Twist. These records are not rarities. When I really started collecting Twist records ten years ago I found them all the time. “Ya Ya” was written by Lee Dorsey and Petula Clark had a hit with her cover version “Ya Ya Twist”. This EP is interesting because there are a couple of cover versions of Twist songs by Jack Hammer on it. He was quite well known in Europe in the Twist era and two of his craziest numbers were featured on the classic “Las Vegas Grind” compilation: “The Wiggle” and “Wiggling Fool”. These Twists here are by some unknown budget artist whose real name was most certainly not Ronn Clay…

Wollte Dir folgende, eher merkwürdige Entdeckung mitteilen:
Die Instrumental- und Backvocalspuren von Crazy Twist, Boogie Woogie Twist und Kissin´Twist (bei Ya Ya weiß ich´s nicht) sind dieselben wie bei den Jack Hammer- Aufnahmen! Nur der Leadgesang ist ein anderer.
Wer aber Ronn Clay ist, weiß ich leider auch nicht.

wer hätte das gedacht! Danke für den Hinweis. Mir ist das nicht aufgefallen. Muss gleich mal meine Jack Hammer Platten nochmal darauf hin abhören. Die Ronn Clay Aufnahme kam wahrscheinlich als Lizens aus Belgien, jedenfalls finden sich auf dem Belgischen Ronnex Label Aufnahmen von Ronn Clay.

Ronn Clay is the son of Albert Van Hoogten who was the owner of the Teeny/Ronnex labels. This explains why Die Instrumental- und Backvocalspuren von Crazy Twist, Boogie Woogie Twist und Kissin´Twist (bei Ya Ya weiß ich´s nicht) dieselben sind.
