EDDY WILLIAMS´ORCHESTRA, Madison time, 1962

This is a German version of Madison Time  with  instructions in German  and a instrumental b-side. Of course it`s considerably less cool. Instead of  “Rock on, you´re looking good”  the caller says “Sehen Sie, prima machen Sie das!” (There you go, well done, Sir!).

LES CHAKACHAS, Big Strong Madison, 1962

chakachas-frontchakachas-backchakachas-labelThe Chakachas were a group from Belgium who played mostly Latin-American tinged music but also delved in the dance crazes of the early 60`s. In 1961 they hit in Germany with Twist Twist.

There is some nice guitar playing here and a nice beat and the dance instructions on the back of the sleeve make it easy to try the Madison yourself. Well, kinda…chakachas

DIE PERRYS, Hallo Inspektor Madison, 1962

Both sides credit a Osterwald, so I assume the Swiss musician and bandleader  Hazy Osterwald was behind this group or at least co-wrote these songs. It sure sounds like it too: Hallo Inspector Madison is a pretty funny  Madison song sung in German. Night-Club Madison is a song by the Chakachas.

JONNY TEUPEN`S BAND, Jonny`s Madison, 1962

These sides credit a Kuhn so again I believe it was Paul Kuhn who was playing in Jonny Teupens group. This is easy listening instrumental Jazz music with a Madison beat. Music to make some light Half Turns and Boss Turns to on Sunday mornings..

JOHN FORTE CON I RECORDMEN, The Madison, 1962

A Italian version of The Madison sung or rather instructed in English with a thick  Italian accent. At the end of the song Johnny sort of gives up and continues in Italian.

I like this cute little piano player on the Microson company-sleeve…

PEPPINO DI CAPRI E I SUOI ROCKERS, Madison Time, 1962

Peppino Di Capri was one of Italy`s biggest rockers.  His Italian Madison Time is actually a completely different song and it kills the original Madison Time big time!

JAMES CURTIS AND THE MADISSON, Madison Go!, 1962

By 1962 everybody was doing the Madison. Even the Rockers. James Curtis and the Madisons (On side 1 they are The Madisons and on side 2 they are The Madisson, probably a spelling error) were a Rock`n`Roll group from Brussels, Belgium and on their first record they saved the Madison from completely  going soft. They even Ma-ssh- Potatoé pretty hard…

If you like these James Curtis songs you can find some more over on the fabulous TWIST AND FRIT blog.

OLIVIER DESPAX ET LES GAMBLERS, Paris Madison, 1962

Here`s the Paris Madison played live at the Madison Club in Paris. Olivier Despax and his Gamblers sound more like a Jazz group but one that can also rock. Great conga playing, a driving organ and a bluesy guitar break . You can hear the people shouting in the background. This is wild stuff!
